The Characters
Overviews of the characters in the book. I wrote the descriptions. :)
I will only add characters that I have gotten to and written about for about a chapter because I feel that characters only come to life when they've been given a purpose, so to speak.
The pictures are NOT mine. They are what most consider "stolen". I tried to credit them where I could, but most of these have been on my computer for years and I can't find them online again. Please know that I do not intend to steal these, I'm just saying that if I had to take a picture of my character I would have taken one just like the person who took the amazing picture I'm displaying. Thank you to whoever did. :)
For a couple of them, the full overview of the character is accessible by clicking "read full description!", where I felt like publishing the actual development sheet I used to build the character.....but note that these DO CONTAIN SPOILERS. Like for the end of the book, so probably not a good idea. And probably they are subject to huge change.

Willie Fae MarlynBorn: July 14th, 1957
Looks: Shoulder length slightly wavy red-brown hair, brown eyes, 5' 5", 120 pounds. Status: Main Character [the entire point of the story]. Summary: From Heart's Bend, Texas, meet Willie Fae Marlyn. 21 in the story's open, people might wonder why she keeps disappearing. Her best friend certainly does, anyway. But she's never cared about what others think, so naturally, she keeps on disappearing. Willie Fae is an intelligent young girl with a rough background who just wants to work on a ranch, a girl who can't stay in one place but subconsciously longs for a home, a girl who remains technically homeless but quite of her own free will. Just her and her horse, Kentucky Belle, because she never lets anyone in. People only annoy her, and she doesn't trust anyone. She won't tell a soul who she really is. Even her one best friend will never fully understand who she is... or will she? Willie Fae can seem gruff and emotionless. But maybe she's only distrustful of her feelings, maybe she only seems that way because she doesn't want you to know she has them. Maybe she is too logical a girl, and tries to fit a round peg into a square hole, tries to apply logic to her feelings, and it just doesn't work... only baffling her further and resulting in the distrustful, closed off soul that she is. At least, that she is for now anyway. Basically, she's an honest, hard working, sarcastic and somewhat irritable young lady who just wants to find her place in life, She can be very affable if she likes but her natural distrust of others prevents her from being so. She has to have known someone a while to trust them, but she never stays in one place long enough to know anyone, therefore she created her own dilemma. She tries to stay out of drama but she'll speak her mind, appropriate or not, and if you don't like it, too bad. "Sucks to be you" she'd say, with a laugh. She's very down to earth, but she hates details and plans, has little respect for authority and is very spontaneous. She might have... "trust issues". ;) MBTI: ISTP (click here to check out the amazingly accurate description) Engram: 5w6 First Appearance: Beginning of the story Last Appearance: End of the story Role: Main character Significance: The whole point of the story Click Here To Read The Full Description! Daisy Mae CarterBorn: May 12, 1959 (aged 19 in story open, 1978)
Looks: Blue eyes, short black feathered hair, 5' 2", about 115 pounds Status: Main Character Summary: Daisy Mae is her given name, but she likes to go by Daisy. She went to the same high-school as Willie Fae, which is why she's best friends with her. She has a couple of nicknames, like "Ditzy" Daisy Mae and "Dais" but she usually doesn't go by either- just Daisy. She's a bit flighty, and technically she'd be the stereotypical blonde, except she isn't- her black hair is kept in the latest fashion of feathered 70s/80s hair, which is fitting, considering the setting of the story, in 1978. She's a fun loving and energetic girl who is in love with anything Paris and likes horses to some extent although it took some coaxing to get her not to be afraid of them. She's easy going and totally disorganized, but she means well even if she is a walking disaster waiting to happen most of the time. She's very open about her feelings, unlike Willie Fae, which sometimes results in their arguments, but they always remain friends despite Willie Fae's gruff approach to friendship. Looks: Black eyes, long dirty blonde hair, 5', about 110 pounds Status: Recurring Character Summary: Amanda Hays is a student at Riverside college, studying to become a nurse. Actually, she plans to become a travelling nurse, since she loves travel so much. Even though she's very friendly and open, she has some lines she doesn't cross in conversation and trust that must be earned to a degree. She's on her second year at college at the age of 20- she started at 18. She worked hard in school for that. She loves the color red and she often slaps her hair in a messy side pony-tail, being unconcerned with her looks. She'd much rather focus on something interesting. Intense emotional situations are not her strong point and you'll probably never catch her in one. She and Willie Fae are very different but they act accordingly and make a somewhat distant friendship work. She meets Willie Fae at a boarding house by accident and going for an unexpected walk in the rain together breaks the ice. Amanda likes Willie Fae but instinctively keeps a safe distance just in case. Willie Fae returns the friendship, albeit a little tentatively. Amanda is very much against details and always in search of something cheerful or inspiring. This may be the reason she doesn't hang out around Willie Fae all that much- she can be good company if she wants to be but she's not very cheerful. Amanda doesn't really know Daisy, and she isn't often around, but she is a good friend. MBTI: ISFP Engram: ??? Animal Characters
Kentucky BelleMeet our story's namesake, Kentucky Belle. An ivory mane and tail, an amber-champagne coat, and hazel eyes to go with a gentle disposition and surprising stamina make her hard not to love. Who doesn't love a Mustang mare?
She was awarded to Willie Fae in 1973, when the "adopt a wild Mustang for a year to see if you can train it" program started. Her father trained two- one of which he gave to his daughter, and thus, we have Kentucky Belle. You might wonder why Willie Fae Marlyn- born and raised in southern Texas- would name her horse 'Kentucky Belle.' Southern Belle would've made more sense, you are thinking, perhaps? Well, there is a reason. But it isn't my place to tell. I'm sure Willie Fae will let that secret slip over time. Or maybe not. You'll have to stick around and find out. |
I am in fact aware that the horse in the picture is not a Mustang. You have any idea how hard it is to find a champagne colored Mustang picture? Hard. Anyway, please use your imagination. This was as close as I could get after weeks of "no, that one's not quite right...."
The place it links back to is here. Somewhere on this page...... I think this may be the original source, and if so, said horse is a Quarter Horse. But I really can't tell and I have no good references so....whatever, I guess. :)

JuneauMeet Juneau, an oddly named, brown and white farm dog.
He's a stray Willie Fae runs into at a cattle auction barn in Mayville, and he decides he's adopted her apparently. She doesn't argue with him. He's just a big, goofy dog with about as much grace as drunk giraffe and, sometimes, a nose for trouble. But he's also good company.... More than likely he's a mutt, probably part collie. Either way he'd lovable, so even if it is impracticable and a little odd to have a girl om horse crossing the state with dog in tow. it happens anyway. |
Yeah yeah. I know: Said dog is probably all Collie, not Collie mix, but whatever. Imagination again please- this was as close as I could get. :)
